The Best Things to Do in Bangkok with Kids

When we hear the word Bangkok, our first thoughts might be ‘huge metropolitan city’ or ‘the wild night life,’ but actually there are many child-friendly activities in Bangkok. Our family has been living in Thailand for 15+ years. All 3 of our girls were born here.  They’re 3, 5, and 8 now.

And like any parent around the world, we are constantly on the hunt for the top family destinations in Thailand and the best things to do in Bangkok with kids.

*For those of you looking for the best things to do in Bangkok with a toddler or baby, do know that we also took a baby and/or a toddler along with us to almost all of these ideas minus a couple of the more adventurous ones.

Top 5 Must Visit Tourist Spots for Families in Bangkok

This is my go-to list I give to my friends or family who are visiting Bangkok. Some might be visiting for the first time or some have been here a couple times already, but this is my own personal recommendation of those must-visit tourist sites in Bangkok for families:

1. Ride the Hop On Hop Off River Taxi to Wat Arun Temple of the Dawn.

I’m not usually a fan of the Hop on Hop off bus tours in any city around the world, but the Hop On Hop Off River Taxi is a game changer. Since most of the famous Bangkok landmarks are right along the river, it’s a great way to see all the main Bangkok attractions while missing the gridlock traffic. Here is a step-by-step blog post of a one day itinerary for what to see and do from the  Hop on Hop off Bangkok River Taxi including the best child-friendly cultural activities to do in Bangkok and some family-friendly temples you can visit.

2. Take a Tuk Tuk ride from the pier to the Grand Palace.

The Grand Palace is a kid-friendly cultural landmark in Bangkok. The shiny golden architecture will mesmerize your kids, and taking the tuk tuk will be an unforgettable ride!  TIP: Download the MuvMi app to easily book an electric tuk tuk throughout the city without the worry of being scammed by the infamous Thailand tuk tuk drivers.

3. Ride a Golf Cart visiting the famous Thailand landmarks around the Ancient City.

Ancient City, aka Muang Boran, is a huge 320 acre outdoor park and  interactive museum that has more than 100 replicas of the most famous cultural landmarks from all over Thailand. The kids can interact and explore inside all of these cultural sites without fear of being too loud or rowdy.  In my opinion, Ancient City is one of the most child-friendly cultural attractions in Bangkok. You can also rent bicycles or e-bikes instead of the golf cart. Check out this blog post to get a step-by-step itinerary : Ancient City with Kids and grab the 50% discounted Ancient City Tickets Here

4. Enjoy the landmarks all lit up at night on a Chao Praya River Dinner Cruise.

Experiencing Bangkok from the river is seriously my favorite way to see this city! Taking the dinner cruise is the best way to go sightseeing in Bangkok with kids. See the most famous Bangkok landmarks all lit up at night while you enjoy a yummy buffet dinner of Thai and International food. It just doesn’t get better than this! Some of the famous tourist attractions that you will see are: the Grand Palace, Wat Arun Temple of the Dawn, Asiatique with the large Ferris wheel, Icon Siam, and the beautifully designed Rama VIII bridge. We’ve done quite a few dinner cruises over the years, but our favorite one is the Meridien Bangkok River Dinner Cruise“]. Again, the best price we’ve found is from Klook. Klook is a trustworthy website like Viator or Get Your Guide, but specializes in  Southeast Asian attractions.

5. Bangkok Canal Longtail Boat Tour

Did you know that Bangkok has been nicknamed the Venice of Asia?  It’s because the city has so many canals that interconnect the various parts of the city.  So what better than to go behind the scenes and see the life of the local people from the small canal waterways. This canal longtail boat tour is great for families of all sizes and ages. It stops at the Temple of the Dawn and also at the temple with the largest buddha statue. The whole family, both young and old, will enjoy experiencing Bangkok from this longtail boat tour. However, if you have teenagers, then this Bangkok Bike and Canal Boat Tour with Lunch is even better to be able to see some hidden gems and untouched parts of Bangkok from a bike and a longtail boat. They also stop for an authentic Thai lunch along the river.

The best one day itinerary in Bangkok with kids is at Ancient City.

Child-friendly Cultural Activities in Bangkok

Thailand has been around since the 1200s, so it is steeped in a long and rich history worthy of learning more about. Between having one of the longest reigning monarchs to the deep rooted buddhist religion, there is so much to learn about Thailand’s history.

The best things to do in Bangkok with kids (babies and toddlers too!) that offer child-friendly cultural activities to learn more about the Thai history and culture:

  1. Make homemade clay pottery at Koh Kred Island and Market is high on my list of child-friendly cultural activities for families in Bangkok.  Ride the boat to this island in the middle of the Chao Praya River for just 5 baht ($0.25 cents). Rent bicycles to explore around the island, then stop to walk around the Tops Handmade Market.  Don’t forget to make a handmade clay vase with a potters wheel early on in the day so that it can dry long enough to take it home safely. This will be such a great learning experience for your kids!
  2. Ring the golden gong atop the Golden Mountain Temple. This is a family-friendly temple in Bangkok. Take your kids on an urban hike up the 344 steps with a goal of hitting the golden gong when they reach the top. Go at sunset for a breathtaking view over the city.
  3. Do the Treasure Hunt at the Siam Museum. Siam Museum is said to be an ‘edutainment museum’ because it is an interactive museum with 15+ fun exhibits on things such as: the history of Siam, the monarchy, the Thai language, the main religion, the Thai baht, and even the educational system. The kids will enjoy the role play activity, the interactive food exhibit, the Thai history puzzle, and the history show. You can easily get to the Siam Museum from the Hop On Hop Off River Taxi. This is one of the best child-friendly cultural attractions in Bangkok!
  4. Enjoy the Siam Niramit Performance at the Thailand Cultural Center. There are a variety of family-friendly shows, performances, concerts, and ballets almost every night of the week, but we personally enjoyed the Siam Niramit show. This kid-friendly performance brilliantly captured the essence of Thai culture in a 90 minute production combining dance choreography, singing and even a mythical winged creature that flies in from the ceiling. You can check out the upcoming shows here.
  5. Ride the interactive Thai style boat at the Samut Prakarn Learning Park and Tower. Two floors are an interactive museum and are dedicated to the history of Thailand and more specifically Samut Prakarn, one of the suburbs of Bangkok. For example, one exhibit, you actually get onto a ‘Thai style boat’ and watch a video that takes you along the river like it was 200 years ago. The ‘Thai style boat’ is also moving and swaying and evading a military attack while you’re riding on this exhibit. Go to the top floor where the indoor air-conditioned Observation Deck is.  The kids will be amazed at how far-reaching the city of Bangkok!
  6. Bike around the Ayutthaya Historical Park with its ancient ruins dating back to the 14th-16th century.  Technically not in Bangkok, it is only 1 hour away by taxi or two hours by train.  There is a 50 baht entrance fee per site or buy an all-in-ticket for 220 baht to visit all the sites. You can rent bikes to ride around to the different ancient ruins for 40 baht per day, or if you have small kids or grandparents with you then a tuk tuk ride might be better suited for your family. The tuk tuk rides are about 200 baht per hour. You can also take a long tail boat ride for 200 baht per person, which stops at 3 different kid-friendly temples and also other ancient ruins. Here’s a small guided Ayutthaya Temple Tour if you’d rather not venture there on your own.
  7. Learn how to make Thai silk at the Jim Thompson House.  Walk through the old, traditional Thai style house on stilts, learn the skill of making Thai silk from silk worms, and see some Thai art and collectibles on display. The kids will like the free tuk tuk shuttle service to the National Stadium BTS Station. Buy a beautiful silk scarf as a souvenir to take back home. There is a 200 baht entrance fee (about $6 USD). Make the most of this Bangkok cultural experience by dining at the Jim Thompson Thai Restaurant that offers exquisite culinary dishes with inventive twists on the Thai classics. Book the three-course meal in advance on Klook for a nice discount.
  8. See the Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho. This is another one of those family-friendly temples in Bangkok with a larger than life reclining buddha that is worthy to add to your Bangkok Bucket List.
One of the Most Family Friendly Temples in Bangkok Thailand can be found visiting the Ancient City Muang Boran

Adventurous Things to Do in Bangkok with Kids

*Since these activities air on the side of adventure, the activity itself might not be very baby or toddler-friendly. However, 80% of them are still toddler-friendly places to go in Bangkok especially 1-4 and 8.

  1. E-Scooter Jungle Tour in The Green Lung Area. As a local, this is one of favorite fun family outings in Bangkok. First, ride a long tail boat or ferry across the Chao Praya River. Next, explore the coconut plantations and mangrove forests in  ‘the Green Lung’ area of Bangkok. Stop by the floating market (only open on the weekend) to get an ancient Thai snack called ‘Miang Kham.’ Then go bird watching up in the observatory tower in the botanical gardens. Afterwards, stop for lunch at one of the many instagram worthy cafes along the river.  Our personal favorite is the Bangkok Tree House, which has a lush, tropical feel with a restaurant right on the river and would make for an epic place to stay overnight with the kids too! Def one of the top child-friendly cultural activities in Bangkok!
  2. Try out windsurfing at Nong Bon Water Sports Center — this is a great park with a large lake to enjoy lots of water activities such as  kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding on a SUP board, wind surfing, or just renting bikes to go around the lake.
  3. Dare to step out onto the glass floor 78 floors up on the Mahanakorn Skywalk This is not for the faint at heart and might be more fun for teenagers! My mom enjoyed the short thrill, amazing views of the city, and grilled pork with sticky rice from the Mahanakorn Eatery afterwards. This is one of the main tourist spots for families or even locals to go!
  4. Ride down the rainbow waterslides at the Siam Amazing Amusement Park — this is probably the largest amusement park in Thailand, but it is still small if compared to Universal Studios. It has a couple roller coasters, the Log Flume, a double decker carousel, and some other carnival type rides. There is also a waterpark section with many slides and a wave pool. KLOOK has the best price for the Amazing Siam Park that I’ve found for expats at 700 baht including the lunch buffet (about $20 USD). It’s a little worn down in areas, which is not un-common in Thailand. So it’s still a fun family outing worth doing if you are living in Bangkok.
  5. Jump your heart out at Bounce Inc! This is a great place for the kids to burn off some energy! Lots of different trampoline areas — for little kids to adults. 390 baht/hour (about $11 USD).  We went to the one at Emquartier and afterwards watched a movie at the Kids Cinema right next to it.
  6. Try out parkour at The Movement Playground — this ex-warehouse facility has multiple levels and different types of obstacles to overcome while you try out some fun parkour type moves.
  7. Surfing at Flow House. If you’re about to go hit the high waves at Kata Beach in Phuket, you might want to spend an afternoon honing in those surfing skills at Flow House. Get the family package at a discount from Klook.
  8. Safari World is the closest place to a zoo in Bangkok, but it has many shows also.  One part is a drive-thru safari adventure where you will see giraffes and zebras up close and lions and tigers far off.  There are a few exhibits like an aviary, an aquarium, and a baby animal exhibit called Eggs World. Some of the shows include a Monkey Show, a Dolphin Show, a Sea Lion Show, a Bird Show, and a ‘Cowboy Stunt Show.’ This place is a top tourist spot for families in Bangkok, so it feels very touristy and not so much an authentic Thai experience.  But if you live in Bangkok, then it might be a fun day trip for your family. Regardless, I highly recommend booking  Safari World Tickets at 25% Off on Klook
  9. Take a Muay Thai exercise class at Fit Fac Academy. This is such a fun, family-friendly activity to do in Bangkok and a great way for your kids to learn more about Thai culture and gets some good exercise while doing a Muay Thai kickboxing activity!
  10. Turn into Spiderman at the Virtual Reality Games Experience at Total VR Bangkok.  With thrilling games that range from Star Wars to Knock Out Boxing to a Duck Hunting Game and much more.
Enjoy Shaved Ice and Fun Murals at Ban Yen Cafe in On Nut
Kidzoona Indoor Playground in Bangkok

*PLEASE NOTE : the price ranges are up-to-date as of the date of publishing this post. They may vary from season to season.

Best Things to Do at the Indoor Playgrounds

  1. Go tubing at Harborland — this is the best of the best in terms of an indoor playground, but the price reflects that! About 600 baht/kid ($20 USD).  It’s great for any age because it has multiple zones for all skill sets. It also has many locations around the city.
  2. Ride down the 3 story twisty slide at Playmondo — this place is equally as good as Harborland, but it is a little smaller.  However, the cost is a little cheaper too. About 270-370 baht/kid ($8-$10 USD). Has a variety of activities and play areas for kids age 1-12 with 4 locations around the city.
  3. Zipline into a ball pit at Kidzoona — this is a great indoor playground for ages 1-9. There are many locations all over Thailand and mostly at shopping malls. Not too expensive for the variety of play areas provided. About 200-300 baht/kid (about $6-9 USD). My girls like the ball pit, the zip line, and the pretend play area the most.
  4. Evade and shoot the dinosaurs on the Dino Ride at YoYo Land.  YoYo Land is a mini-amusement park best for ages 2-12. It kind of reminds me of a state fair back home with lots of carnival style rides as well as three indoor play areas included in the low price of 180 baht/kid (about $6 USD). Did I mention it’s indoors and air-conditioned? Yayy!
  5. Roam through the wooden treehouse maze at Playville. This  indoor playground feels more upscale and is in the popular Thong Lor area of town. I would say it’s geared for kids age 1-8. My girls thoroughly enjoyed playing here for a couple hours.
  6. M Play at Central Bangna is a decent play area for toddlers and young preschoolers. We like that it’s only 100 baht per kid (about $3 USD).  Central Bangna is just an all-around kid-friendly mall with many different areas to keep the kids entertained.

We’ve heard good reviews from friends about these indoor playgrounds:

  1. BEAT Active at BITEC Bangna
  2. Ninja Arena

Best Kid Cafes in Bangkok and What to Do

  1. Ride the pretty Merry-Go-Round at Lilliput Kids Cafe.  This is our favorite go-to kids cafe that charges 200 baht/kid/hour (about $6 USD/hour), but parents can get in free if they purchase a drink or food item. It has a trampoline, kitchen play area, play horses to scoot around on, a dress up area, and a wooden beads digging area. It’s probably best for 2-8 year olds and a little bit more geared to girls. Right outside is a free covered wooden playground in the Bambini Shopping Complex.  We also usually grab dinner at Smizzle Burger right there too.
  2. Climb up into the large red mushroom at Wonder Woods Kids Cafe and Co-learning Space. There isboth an indoor and outdoor play area with a cafe that serves food and drinks. Our girls love this place, but it’s a little pricier at 450 baht for kids (about $13 USD) and 150 baht for adults (about $5 USD)!
  3. Join the Baby Massage Class at Bumpsy Daisy Cafe. This cafe is free to get in and perfect for parents with newborn to toddler age kids. It has workshops and parent meet up groups all throughout the week.
  4. Dig in the Wooden Bead Pit at Mari Go Round. This is a nice indoor play area with slide, soft rock climbing area, and lots of Melissa and Doug type toys. It’s probably more suited for ages 1-6 year olds. The cost is 250 baht/kid (about $7 USD) and 100 baht/adult (about $3 USD).
  5. Build a wooden train track at Fairy Fox Kids Cafe. We like this cafe because it is free to get in, but mostly has toys geared for young preschool age kids. My toddler and 3 year old love this place. I like the Toffee Nut Latte and the girls like the unicorn rainbow cupcakes.
A couple that get honorable mention, but our family has not yet personally had a chance to go to these is:
  1. Babble Space
  2. Banana Tree Horse
  3. Moby Kids Cafe
  4. Rider Kids Cafe & Playground is like the Healthy Happy Bike Lane, but it charges a fee to enter and rent bikes.
  5. Upperland Kids Cafe
  6. Little Zoo Garden Cafe

TRANSPORTATION TIP FOR BANGKOK:

Get a BTS Sky Train Pass called a ‘Rabbit Card‘.

Having this card has multiple benefits:

  • Go straight to the BTS gate, tap your card, and it will automatically calculate how much the ride was based on where you exit.
  • Save lots of time not needing to queue to buy individual BTS ride tickets
  • You can pick up this Rabbit Card from Klook at the Suvarnabhumi Airport or at Central World (a mall in the center of the city). This makes it easy to quickly jump on the BTS Sky Train and make your way around the city with ease.
  • This one from Klook is pre-loaded with 200 THB already  (about $7 USD).
  • If you buy yours from the BTS Station, you should pre-fill it with about 100-200 baht per day that you’ll be in Bangkok. You can top up more later, but it is quite difficult to get a refund on any amount left in the card.
  • Get 1 Rabbit Card per person above 90cm (about 3 feet). Kids under 90 cm ride for free.

If you’ll be stopping at multiple BTS Sky Train stations all in one single day, it would save you money to have a BTS One Day Pass. With this card, you can go to  an unlimited number of stations in one day, saving you time buying individual tickets at the long queues.  This is most helpful if you’ll stop at 3+ stations in a single day. But this pass is only good for one single day and can not be ‘topped up’ like the above Rabbit Card.

Best Things to Do in Bangkok with Kids on a Rainy Day : Take Pictures in front of the Murals at Digital Park

Best Kid-friendly Restaurants in Bangkok and Why

  1. Splash in the Shallow Swimming Pool at Baantonkla Cafe & Restaurant. This restaurant has a great indoor and outdoor play area with a water scooping area, a wooden play area, a zipline, a sandpit, and an indoor soft play area with climbing area and swings and a slide. It is surprisingly free to enter considering how much it has to offer. Good for ages 2-12.
  2. Feed the rabbits and goats at Dubua. This place is like a big outdoor park with a lake in the middle. The kids can feed and pet lots of farm animals as well as bike around or ride the pedal boats. It has lots of food stalls all around as well as an air-conditioned restaurant and cafe. The entrance and all the activities are actually free!
  3. Climb into the Wooden Treehouse at Inn Train Restaurant. This is a full-service restaurant with a wooden outdoor playground that is good for ages 4-12 year olds.
  4. Swing or Rock-climb at the Honey Bear Bistro. This is a nice restaurant in the city with high quality food options and a simple indoor and outdoor play area that is free for the kids to play. I like the Buddha and Meditteranean Bowl. The kids like the extra large homemade chocolate chip cookies!
  5. Zipline at Sunny Park. This place feels like you are in your backyard back home. It has a great selection of high quality Thai food and International food options with a nice outdoor play area that is free to use. It features a big trampoline, a zipline, a rock climbing wall, an outdoor play kitchen, and a sand pit. We enjoyed sitting outside in the ‘camping’ chairs.
  6. Enjoy a futuristic dining experience inside a refurbished Airplane at Na-oh Restaurant.  You can choose from the 6, 8, and 12 course meals.  Children must be age 5+ to go.
  7. Enjoy a Thai style shaved ice at Ban Yen and let the kids play dress up on their 2nd floor loft area with lots of painted murals to take fun pics for the gram.
  8. Enjoy the cheesecake in the lush garden setting at The Gardens of Dinsor Palace. The children will enjoy watching the swans, rabbits, and white peacock.
  9. Ride the revolving observation deck at Baiyoke Sky Buffet and Observation Deck. This is a fun dinner option to take the family to have an International buffet on the 78th floor and then you have access to the revolving observation deck on the 81st floor afterwards.
  10. Have a traditional English style Tea Party at T’s on 56. The lovely all glass atrium feels like you are in a true English garden.
  11. Try the interactive suki hotpot at You & I Suki BuffetYou can pick two soup choices per table, so you could have a chicken broth one for the kids and a more adventurous Thum Yam flavor for your side. The wagyu beef is top quality and the large prawn are delicious. Even better is that Children under 120cm (about 4 feet tall) are free of charge.
  12. Ride down the fireman pole at Habito Mall — this is more of a lifestyle mall with a small playground in the middle and a dozen or so restaurants. Our family personally likes: grabbing fresh baked scones from Baker Bricks, Carbonara pasta from Don Pino, American Chinese from Lucky Panda, Sushi and Ramen Noodles from Teien (which has a small area inside for kids to color and play), rice bowls from Easy Health, or Nam Nueng from Muine (this is actually my favorite Vietnamese place in the city)!

BEST FAMILY HOTEL IN BANGKOK:
JASMINE GRAND RESIDENCE

This is the hotel we put our family and friends in!

With 1, 2, and 3 bedroom suites that have a living room, dining area, kitchenette, washing machine, etc. for only about $55-$110 USD!

The delicious buffet breakfast, the friendly reception who are ready to help you 24 hours a day in a foreign country, and the epic swimming pool with a slide, fountains, and kiddie area make this a great choice!

*ACCOMODATION TIP: If you haven’t booked a place to stay yet, be sure to read these ‘Must Read Tips’ BEFORE booking any place to stay in Bangkok.

*TRANSPORTATION TIP: Also you can buy a BTS Sky Train Pre-filled Card that makes it easy to get on and off the BTS Sky Trains with an easy tap. No need to wait in the long queues to buy individual tickets.

*MONEY TIP: Take Thai baht with you because most vendors do not take credit card. Also, beware of pick-pocketers in all the tourist areas. Simply keep your phone, wallet, backpack or purse on your front side.

*BAG TIP: This is my favorite sling bag for travel because it’s small and light, keeps my valuables up front, and can easily still hold a small travel umbrella, my sunglasses, my passport, chapstick, and mula. I have taken this sling bag with me to Thailand, USA, Japan, France, Italy — literally all around the world!

Bangkok One Day Itinerary with Kids
A Hidden Gem of Bangkok is visiting the Ko Kret Market and Stop Village

Best Bangkok Markets to take the Family

  1. Watch the train roll through the Maeklong Train Market — This market actually is in my Top 10 list of things to do in Bangkok. I mean what kid doesn’t love the adventure of watching a lively market flourish right on top of railroad tracks. Then all the vendors quickly whisk up all their goods and tuck them away as everyone stops to listen to the train horn blow and the conductor wave as the train rolls slowly on by.  Maeklong Train Market Tour is a great Klook tour option that combines  a Day Trip to the Maeklong and the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market.
  2. Ride the huge Ferris wheel at Asiatique Market is our favorite place to take friends souvenir shopping because it’s right on the river, has so many restaurants and food vendors, lots of stalls selling homemade goods. Watch the sun set over the city while riding the Ferris wheel. The kids will also enjoy the double-decker carousel, the haunted mansion, and the Disney area.
  3. See flying squirrels at the Chatuchak Weekend Market is best for souvenir shopping. However, it’s super hot, crowded and HUGE! When my sister came to visit, we literally got lost in the ‘animal section’ for more than an hour! However, the kids actually enjoyed seeing lots of interesting animals like the eels, flying squirrels, and colorful parrots. I personally felt sad for the caged up creatures. But anyways, we finally found our way to the souvenir area. Just be prepared for LOTS of walking.
  4. Try Mango & Sticky Rice at the Jodds Fair Rama 9 is the best place to go if you’re looking for the most amazing street food in Bangkok! It’s such a bright and colorful market.  The kids will surely love the lively atmosphere! Be sure to try the BBQ Skewers, the Grilled Corn on the Cobb and the Lychee Bubble Tea,
  5. Buy an old school toy from the Thalot Rot Fai near Seacon Square is best for finding awesome street food and ‘yard sale’ type finds.  The kids will like the vendors selling the toys at garage sale prices. Kid Favorites are: Angry Bird meatballs on a stick, Egg Rolls, and Hand Rolled Ice Cream.
  6. Enjoy the Coconut Rolled Ice Cream on Khao San Road is not technically considered a ‘market’, but in fact, it is one long road that is similar to an outdoor market and famous for its food and souvenir vendors. Try the Pad Thai, Nutella Roti Pancakes, and the Shwarma Wrap with the meat shaved right off the pit.
  7. Go on an Asian-inspired Flower Scavenger Hunt Park at the Klong Flower Market — this is a particularly fun option if you have little girls like us who love flowers. Walk through the alleys upon alleys of flower vendors, take fun instagram worthy pictures, and then walk across the Chao Phraya Sky Park.
  8. W Market is a small, foodie haven located near Phrakhanong BTS Station. It’s pretty family-friendly since it’s outdoors and the kids can be loud in the backyard style eating area. Our favorite food vendors are: Holy Smokes, the burger truck, the Mexican tacos and the fresh fruit smoothies.  They also have Thai, Isaan, Japanese, Korean, Indian, etc.

Best Park in Bangkok to Take the Littles

These are our Top 6 Public Parks in Bangkok and what are the fun things for kids to do at each one:

  1. Rent Bicycles at Rot Fai Train Park for just 35-50 baht/day (about $1-$1.50). They have a neat place for the kids to bike around that mimics the city of Bangkok with lined roads, red lights, stop signs, roundabouts, and even mini landmarks. Lots of normal bike trails to explore too.
  2. Let the kids play on Benchasiri Park playground and then head to lunch or dinner at Emsphere Mall, which is a foodie haven!
  3. Walk over the new sky walk area at Benchakitti Forest Park.  The skywalk takes you to the lovely wetland area with several raised paths and bridges to meander through the ponds, greenery, flowers and water lilies. They just opened a new kids zone with several play areas too.
  4. Splash in the big water fountains at Mega Park. They also have a huge concrete slide, a small playground, and a spiral tree house that goes up to some interconnecting bridges for the kids to explore.
  5. Get lost in the shrubbery maze at Rama IX Park or let the kids play ‘house’ in the raised treehouse play area on stilts.
  6. Spot a Komodo Dragon at Lumpini Park

Read more details about each of these parks on our blog post : Ultimate Guide to Bangkok’s Parks

FLIGHT TIP: We’ve personally had the best experience flying to Thailand with our family on Qatar Airlines and also Japan Airlines.    Both were child-friendly airline options.

  • Families with small children could board early
  • Automatically got bulk-head seating when we traveled with an infant
  • Could pre-select kid-friendly meals
  • They have great entertainment options for the littles
  • They had ‘grab-n-go’ snacks available throughout the whole flight
  • The best part : more legroom than the other international flights for families that we’ve taken
Best things for kids to do in Bangkok : Pororo Waterpark
Best Things to Do in Bangkok with Kids : Water Fountain Fun

Outdoor Things to Do in Bangkok with Kids

  1. Slide down a whale tongue at Pororo Waterpark is where our girls request to go for their birthdays! Getting crazy wet in the splash pad, pedaling those bicycle boats, and riding the rooftop lazy river are some of their favorite activities at Pororo. Don’t forget to grab your discounted tickets to the Pororo Waterpark.
  2. Feed the penguins at the Khao Keaw Open Zoo. It is technically not in Bangkok, but it is the closest actual zoo. My favorite is getting to ride a golf cart to see all of the animals. Other highlights are feeding the giraffes and watching the elephants swim from ‘under’ ground.
  3. Go snow tubing at Dreamworld. This is another amusement park in Bangkok that we personally like better than Amazing Siam.  Some highlights were: riding the Gondola over the park, get soaked on the Grand Canyon ride (save this one for last!), and smashing into each other on the bumper cars. Lots of instagram worthy spots for a snap shot too. Fun fact: my husband and I did our engagement pictures here back in 2008! Again, get discounted tickets in advance from KLOOK: Dream World Discounted Ticket from Klook
  4. Run over the wooden swinging bridge at Safari Garden Playground & Cafe. This is a great outdoor, mostly wooden, playground with climbing ropes, wooden bridges, zig zag paths, a sand pit, and a rock climbing wall.
  5. Hit the race track at the Impact Speed Park with an electric go-cart circuit (that is slower and more suited for the kids) as well as a  traditional gas-powered go kart track. These kart are quite powerful and fast. It’s best to go in the non-rainy months of November to May. They change their track layout every couple months to keep things interesting!
  6. Slide down a mud slide at Pa Jeep Farm. This is a fun escape to the outdoorsy life where kids can catch frogs, chase chickens, harvest rice, ride a water buffalo, and even some foamy, water play to end the day!
  7. Walk the netted bridge from tree to tree at the Little Forest and a Big River.  This is an big outdoorsy play area with water play, sand play, climbing, ziplining, and a homemade roller coaster ride. Our kids also enjoyed painting on a huge outdoor canvas. The entrance fee is 150 baht/kid (about $4.25).
  8. Let your kids test out their Putt Putt skills at Top Golf. They have a 18 hole miniature gold course that is also all lit up at night.  We went for their Halloween Party geared for kids, which had a halloween themed buffet of food for the kids.  So be sure to check out their instagram for any upcoming events.

Places I’ve heard good reviews from close friends, but we haven’t had a chance to go yet.

  1. Fantasia Lagoon Waterpark is high on our bucket list to try soon!
  2. Ichiba Water park — a small water park
  3. The Rabbit Water Park
  4. Farm de Lek
  5. Moori Moori Play Farm

  1. Build a fort with XL legos at the Children’s Discovery Museum. It is just a short 10 minute walk from the Mo Chit BTS Station or Chatuchak Park MRT Station. There are so many fun things for kids to do here that I can’t even list them all, but these were our favorites: the treehouse playground, the pretend career areas, the dinosaur fossil digging area, and the place to plan out a miniature city with actual wooden buildings. We usually saved the Splash Pad area for last. You can read more details on this 3 Day Itinerary of Bangkok.
  2. Bike down a huge inflatable slide at Happy Healthy Bike Lane. This place has become our girls most favorite place to spend our Saturdays. They have two adventurous biking areas: one for smaller kids where they can roll their balance bikes over hills and mounds and over bridges. The older kids area is more like a BMX style pump track with exciting short trails. The entrance is free and also the bikes and helmets are provided for free too.
  3. Explore the secret paths at the Quartier Water Garden. It is located on the 5th-6th floor of the Emquartier Mall at the Phrom Pong BTS Station. It is an indoor garden with water features,  waterfalls, and a beautiful view overlooking the Benchasiri Park offering a beautiful view of the city. My girls loved running their fingers through the water features, hopping over the stones, and exploring the little nooks of cascading greenery.
  4. Climb up to 3 stories in the sky at the Net Playground that suspends from floor 2 to floor 3 at Lasalle Avenue. It is covered, so it’s also a good thing to do in Bangkok with kids on a rainy day.
  5. Duck under the water fountain arch at the Mega Bangna mall (not to be confused with the huge outdoor water fountains at the Mega Park outside). This is a covered water fountain play area with large seat swings suspended from above.   There is also a sand pit with a ropes climbing area nearby. Grab a Starbucks brownie for a special treat afterwards.

Best Things to Do in Bangkok on a Rainy Day

  1. Watch the indoor or outdoor water fountain show at ICON Siam.  This is an iconic Bangkok landmark and luxury mall that is also in my Top 10 list of the Best Things to Do in Bangkok with Kids. For a comprehensive list of fun things to do with the kids on 7 different floors at Icon Siam, get this FREE Bangkok with Kids Travel Guide.
  2. Touch the sting rays at the SEA Life Ocean World and Aquarium has a huge variety of marine life with vibrant fish, large sting rays, glow in the dark jelly fish, and even reef sharks from the local Andaman sea. The exhibits are both exciting for my little girls and also educational with many hands on activities and touch pools. The 3D show at the beginning is really fun to watch too. You must book your tickets in advance if you only want to visit the aquarium. Get the best deal I’ve been able to find here: Sea Life Tickets
  3. Be immersed into the night sky under the large dome shaped theatre at The Science Center for Education.  There are multiple buildings beside just the planetarium. They also have a small aquarium, a dinosaur exhibit, a library room, an indoor play area with pirate ship, and an insect exhibition room. It’s also very cheap at only 50 baht per person (about $1.50 USD).
  4. Play an epic game of iSpy at the Museum of Contemporary Art. This museum showcases some of the best Thai style works of art in a very contemporary space.
  5. Try out a game of Bowling. The bowling alleys at Blu-O are quite newly renovated and have a good sample of smaller bowling balls for the kids. The bowling ramp makes it fun for even my little 3 year old! They have a few locations around the city.
  6. Spin and Twirl on the ice with an afternoon of Ice Skating.  The Sub-zero is a super fun activity to beat the heat! My little girl actually requested to go ice skating for her 3rd birthday. They have a ‘seal’ that the kids can be pushed on by a parent. They also have a ‘penguin’ that the kids can stand and push themselves for balance. The smallest skates they have are for a 3 year old.
  7. Sing your heart out with a little Karaoke time! There’s a lot of kid-friendly karaoke places, but there is also a lot of not-so-family-friendly karaoke bars in the city. So our go-to is the Blu-o Rhythm or SF Town.
  8. Glide on some Roller Skates at Rollerland or at the Roller Dome.
  9. Go Rock Climbing at Stonegoat, Urban Playground, or at the Climbing Society. Each of these are kid-friendly and have many different levels to test your rock climbing and bouldering skills.
  10. Test your racing skills with Go Karts at Easy Kart inside RCA Plaza.  The track is quite small, but it is still good fun for the whole family!
  11. Play an Angry Birds golf game at the simulated driving range at Top Golf near Mega Bangna.
  12. Let your kids be pampered with a wash, cut, and style at the best kid-friendly hair salon I’ve ever seen! Kids can sit in an airplane while getting their hair cut and styled. They have toys and ipads to entertain the kids, and then they treat the kids to cookies and drinks after finishing their hair treatment. It’s a bit pricey according to Thai standards at 400-600 baht (about $12-$20 USD).
  13. Take your girls for a special treat of a mani-pedi at MILK Kids Salon with many locations around the city.
  14. Go souvenir shopping at MBK Mall or JJ Mall
  15. Shoot hoops with your favorite basketball star at the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. Many interactive exhibits that will entertain the whole family.  For example, kick a football with David Beckham, play tennis on the Nintendo Wii next to Serena Williams, and even golf with Tiger Woods. Dress up and dance on stage next to Michael Jackson. The Ice Age 4D Movie is fun too!  Def buy tickets online in advance at the link above for a discounted price.
