Bangkok has numerous green spaces scattered throughout the city, and it is actually one of the best things to do in Bangkok with kids that is free! This guide will help you find which is the best park in Bangkok worth visiting with your family:
#1 Best Park in Bangkok: Rot Fai Train Park
For our family, Rot Fai Train Park is by far the best park in Bangkok. It is actually 3 parks all next to each other: Chatuchak Park, Queen Sirikit Park, and Rot Fai Park.
Location:
- Very easy to access right at the Mo Chit BTS Sky Train Station or Chatuchak MRT Subway Station.
- There’s also lots of parking at the very back of the park.
Best Things to in Bangkok Do with Kids at Rot Fai Train Park:
- Rent bicycles for just 35-50 baht/day (about $1-$1.50). It’s a bit hard to find if you are getting off the BTS OR MRT trains, so here’s the area to rent bikes in Google Maps.
- Bike to the mini-Bangkok city that has roads, red lights, stop signs, roundabouts, and even mini landmarks for the kids to ride around
- If your child has a balance bike, they will enjoy the hilly balance bike area that’s for kids under age 6.
- Ride Kayaks, Pedal Boats, or Duck Boats on the Lake
- Visit the butterfly conservatory
- Swing or slide at one of the many playgrounds
- Walk the bamboo bridge through a lily pond to spot the turtles
- Roam through the maze of wildflowers and large grassy pathways
- Visit the old train, a remnant of the former train station grounds
- Play with a puppy at the dog park or just watch little furry animals jump through the obstacle course
- Join the free aerobics class at 6pm
- Break a sweat at the numerous sports facilities: tennis, basketball, volleyball, futsal, and fitness equipment
- Splash in the winding pool area (closed during rainy season)

- Lots of food vendors in the back of the park near the parking lot as well as next door at JJ Market
- Very shady with lots of trees lining the walkways and bike paths
- Stroller and Wheelchair Friendly
- Designated bike paths on a green pathway throughout the park
- Clean bathrooms but unfortunately no baby changing facilities
TRANSPORTATION TIP FOR BANGKOK:
Get a BTS Sky Train Pass called a ‘Rabbit Card‘.
This card has multiple benefits:
- It’s pre-loaded with 200 Thai Baht (about $7 USD)
- Saves time
- No queueing for individual tickets
- Automatically deducts the trip fare from the card
- Can easily top up
- Use for long-term or multi-day trips around Bangkok
*Recommended: Buy 1 Rabbit Card per person above 90cm tall (3 feet). Kids under 90 cm ride for free.
Where to Stay in Bangkok for families?
LUXURY STAY IN BANGKOK:
If you’re not on a specific budget, I’d highly recommend staying at the Shangri-La Bangkok Hotel, which was voted the most kid-friendly hotel in Bangkok.
MID-RANGE HOTEL IN BANGKOK:
If you’re like our family, you want a great stay at a reasonable price. Thus, I’d highly recommend staying at the Novotel Living Bangkok Sukhumvit because up to 2 kids aged 16 and under can stay free.
BANGKOK BUDGET-FRIENDLY FAMILY HOTEL:
We also really love the Jasmine Grand Residence because it has our favorite swimming pool in all of Bangkok along with 1-3 bedroom suites for just $75-$150 USD. Such a steal!
FAMILY-FRIENDLY AIRBNB HOMES:
One of the most charming vacation homes in Bangkok was this AirBNB Home near the main Sukhumvit Road. With a play room full of toys, 2 lounge spaces with Smart TVs for movie nights, and a soaking tub for mom, this is a perfect place to stay in Bangkok for families.

#2 Best Park in Bangkok: Benchasiri Park
Benchasiri Park has the best location in my opinion because it is right off the Phrom Pong BTS station. Our girls love jumping over the large tree roots to make their way between the 2 playgrounds.
Location:
- Right off the Phrom Pong BTS station
What to Do with Kids:
- Two playgrounds: one geared to preschoolers and one more geared to older kids
- Take a stroll around the small lake
- Take a picture of the super adorable turtles
- Play some volleyball
- Shoot some hoops at the basketball court
- Enjoy the nighttime water fountain show
- Join the free Tai Chi class in the mornings or aerobics class in the evenings
- Tone those muscles on the fitness equipment scattered throughout
Why add this park to your Thailand Itinerary:
- Location, Location, Location
- Centrally located
- Sandwiched between the Emporium Mall and the Emsphere Mall, which both are a haven for foodie lovers like our fam
- Across the street from the Emquartier, which is a great place to go clothes or shoe shopping or enjoy one of their nice restaurants with a view of the park
- A rather small park, which is a plus if you have little ones with little legs that tire out from too much walking
- Clean bathrooms at the front of the park near the playground. However, no baby changing facilities.
- Also, no parking available, but you could park at one of the malls for a fee
#3: Benchakitti Forest Park
Benchakitti Forest Park has been revamping itself over the last couple years, and we love what we’re seeing! For one, the new sky walk area that goes over the park and gives you such a beautiful view of the city skyline. The skywalk takes you to the lovely wetland area with several raised paths and bridges to meander through the ponds, greenery, flowers and water lilies.
Location:
- About a 15 minute walk from Asoke BTS Station and a 20 minute walk from Klong Toie MRT Subway Station
Best Things to Do in Bangkok with Kids at this Park:
- Walk the Skywalk then meander through the raised pathways through the greenery and water lilies
- Go to the new Kids Zone which has a very tall bridge that leads to a long, metal slide, a ‘mountain of logs’ for the kids to walk over, a musical play area, and many other Montessori type play areas.
- Ride a pedal boat around the lake
- Bring a bike or skateboard and try out the new ramps and slopes
- Shoot some hoops or challenge someone in pickleball, badminton, or ping pong.
- If you would like to RSVP in advance, which is highly recommended because the courts fill up fast, then you will need to register as a member of the parks. You can download the ‘CSTD Smart Member’ app, and then you can RSVP up to 24 hours in advance (but not sooner than 24 hours in advance).
- Also, the sports equipment is all free to use. This is another top choice for the best park in Bangkok to visit with your family.
- My husband and I actually go play pickle ball here every Friday morning!
Other Benefits:
- Lots of free parking, which is great since it is in the city center and parking is so expensive and hard to come by
- Clean bathrooms, but they are a bit far a part
- They have showers available in the badminton and pickle ball court areas

Bangkok Park #4: Mega Park
Mega Park is a small park that is actually on the outskirts of the city, but it is one of the best park options in the Bangkok suburbs to bring kids. The main draw is the large water fountain feature that the kids can run through and play in.
Location:
- In a suburb of Bangkok and about 30 minutes to 1 hour away from the city center.
- You can take a free bus from the Udom Suk BTS Station.
- Grab the bus that says ‘IKEA’ or ‘Mega Bangna.’
What to Do with Kids:
- Large Water Fountain Feature — it’s about 30 feet wide by 30 feet long (maybe bigger!) and the water sprays at random up to 10 feet in the air!
- Slide down the huge concrete slide
- Play on the small playground in the park area or a toddler soft rubber play area under the stadium seating
- Walk up the spiral tree house that goes up to some interconnecting bridges for the kids to explore
- Explore or ride bikes or roller skates through the weaving trail of whimsical gardens
Other Benefits:
- It’s small so there’s not too much walking for the little kids
- 7-11 right at the front of the park
- Nearby parking lot that is free
- Clean bathrooms with baby changing facilities!
- Mega Bangna Mall is connected to this park so you can easily grab Pizza Company, Subway, or McDonalds to have a picnic in the grassy area or on the stadium seating
MOST LUXURIOUS FAMILY HOTEL:
SIAM KEMPINSKI HOTEL BANGKOK

Best Park in Bangkok #5 : Ancient City Outdoor Museum and Park
Ancient City is not necessarily a public park, but it is an incredible 320 acre outdoor park and museum that is worthy to add to any Thailand Itinerary.
How fun that it was created in the shape of the country of Thailand and has life-size replicas of the most famous temples and tourist attractions from all over each province in the Land of Smiles.
Your kids can explore more than 100+ famous Thai monuments and let them get hands-on without worrying about being too loud or too rambunctious.
WHAT ANCIENT CITY IS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS TO DO IN BANGKOK WITH KIDS:
- Rent bicycles, e-bikes, or a golf cart to explore this HUGE outdoor museum
- Ride elephants (a very rare opportunity so close to Bangkok)
- Enjoy a traditional Thai Dance performance
- Dress up in Thai costumes for a fun photo op
- Play hide-n-seek amongst the ancient ruins
- Buy handmade toys and souvenirs from the Old Market Town or enjoy Pad Thai and Coconut Ice Cream at the Floating Market

HOW TO GET TO ANCIENT CITY:
Ancient City is a bit outside the city, so it’s best to book a GRAB taxi to ‘Muang Boran’ for about 350 baht (about $10 USD) from the city center.

TIME NEEDED: About 4-8 hours

OTHER TIPS:
- Bring a hat, sunglasses, and wear sunblock because most of these sites are outside in the heat
- There are two good areas to eat a meal inside Ancient City: one is near the Old Market Town and the other is near the Ghost Museum.
- This is an awesome Private Temple Tour with an English Speaking Guide that will take you to 3 different temples in one day: Ancient City, Erawan 3-headed elephant, and Wat Paknam Temple with the largest buddha. Plus they’ll take you to one of our favorite restaurants with gulf views: Sailom Bangpu. Then you’ll get to end your night at the Jodd’s Fair, an outdoor open market that is a foodie paradise! Highly recommend this for the $200 price*. But do note it does not include entrance fees to the temples.

#6 Best Park in Bangkok : Rama IX Park
Rama IX Park is also quite far from central Bangkok, but it is a very large green space that was dedicated to the late Rama IX King.
Location:
- Also in a suburb of Bangkok about 30 minutes to 1 hour away from the city center.
- Unfortunately, it’s not super convenient to get here on public transportation.
What to Do with Kids:
- Pretend to play house in the very large Thai-style treehouse play area
- Find your way through the shrubbery maze
- Enjoy swinging, sliding, and seesaws at the large playground
- Jump over the large rocks in the Japanese Garden
- Ride around the lake in the shaded duck boats for only 60 baht (about $1.50).
Other Benefits:
- There is a S&P Restaurant right there on the lake by the playground, which is a good place to grab a meal in some a/c.
- Lots of free parking available
- Unfortunately, you need to pay 3 baht (about $.30 cents) to use the not so great bathrooms — boo!
- It’s a huge park, and the walking area around the lake is nice and breezy. We usually bring our girls scooters or bikes, but adults are not allowed to bike at this park.
- There is a large fireworks show and market event on December 5th of every year in honor of King Rama IX.

#7 Lumpini Park is the best park in Bangkok to have a picnic.
Lumpini Park is said to be the ‘Central Park of Thailand.’ It is a large green space right in the middle of downtown Bangkok, but truthfully, it’s not our favorite to visit because it just doesn’t have that much for the kids to do as the other parks in Bangkok do.
Location:
Very convenient to get to right off the Lumpini MRT Subway Station
Best Things to Do in Bangkok with Kids at Lumpini Park:
- You will for sure be able to spot a Komodo Dragon, which is a major highlight with the kids!
- Join the free aerobics class every night at 6pm with maybe 100+ other people
- Enjoy time at the large playground
- It’s probably the best park in Bangkok to have a picnic because it has so much green space with lots of shade from the tall trees.
- If you’re up for a long walk, you can do the Skywalk that goes all the way over to the Benchakitti Forest Park — it’s not super stroller friendly though because of numerous stairs.
- However, Lumpini Park in general is very stroller and wheelchair friendly.
- The bathrooms facilities are clean.
BUDGET-FRIENDLY FAMILY HOTEL IN BANGKOK:
JASMINE GRAND RESIDENCE
With 1, 2, and 3 bedroom suites that have a living room, dining area, kitchenette, washing machine, etc. for only about $55-$110 USD!
The delicious buffet breakfast, the friendly reception who are ready to help you 24 hours a day in a foreign country, and the epic swimming pool with a slide, fountains, and kiddie area make this a great choice!
Great Internet Service while in Thailand
You’ll need to stay connected while traveling in Thailand — for GPS Maps, researching the best island hopping tour packages, or letting the kids have some downtime watching Bluey on YouTube.
Don’t do the T-Mobile or AT&T International Roaming plans for about $10 per day — save that money for a nice restaurant or fun activity!
E-SIM: I highly recommend getting an eSIM from Airalo to have great internet service all over Thailand. They are actually using the same local providers that AT&T, T-mobile and Verizon will use.
I have personally used Airalo many times traveling all over the world, and it works great and is SUPER easy to install.
To use your Airalo eSIM, you simply buy a package then scan the QR code from your email to install and activate the eSIM.
The packages run from only $4.50 for 1 GB of data to $35 USD for Unlimited Data in Thailand.
TIPS FOR TRAVELING THAILAND WITH KIDS: If you let your kids watch YouTube, Netflix, etc, then I recommend getting the Unlimited Data. But if you’re not video streaming, then 50 GB of data is enough to browse the internet, use Google Maps, and stay in touch with friends back home.
PHYSICAL SIM CARD: You could also pick up a physical SIM card at the airport upon arrival, at any mall, which would have a TRUE shop, DTAC shop, and/or AIS shop, or even some 7-Elevens have them. Just ask! You would need your passport on hand. The physical SIM + a prepaid service card would cost about 999 baht (~$30 USD), but it usually comes with 30GB of Data. So Airalo is a much better deal.
TIP #2: If you plan to use a physical SIM card, then be sure to contact your local phone provider (such as AT&T or Verizon) before traveling overseas to check that your phone is already unlocked. They can usually do this for you over the phone.
