Best Things to Do in Bangkok with Kids
Whether it’s your first time in Thailand or you’ve been living here a while like us, these are the best things to do in Bangkok with kids that need to be on every family’s Bangkok bucket list:
1. Ride a Long-tail Boat off-the-beaten path to see a HUGE buddha statue, an artisan village, and local life along the ancient canals of Bangkok
You will love getting away from the hustle and bustle of the big city on this Hidden Bangkok Canal Ride for a 2 hour journey seeing behind-the-scenes of local Thai life with an instagram-worthy stop at a temple with a larger than life Buddha statue. Then, another stop at a local artisan village with handicrafts and cafes. We take all our friends who visit Thailand on this outing!
2. Get Dressed up at one of the Most Beautiful Temples in the World: Wat Arun Temple of the Dawn
Whether or not you decide to capture these unforgettable moments on camera, the Wat Arun Temple of the Dawn is one of those must-visit attractions Thailand has to offer. But we highly recommend the incredible photoshoot options available at this temple. First, you’ll get to choose your favorite color Thai cultural outfit — with sizes for the whole family! Then, a professional photographer will give you a personal guided tour while taking stunning photos of your family around this iconic landmark.
3. Make Homemade Clay Pottery at Koh Kred Island and Market
Koh Kred Island is one of the most fun and underrated hidden gems in Bangkok, known mostly just with the locals!
- Start your day riding a traditional Thai style boat to this island in the middle of the Chao Praya River for just 5 baht ($0.25 cents)!
- Then rent bicycles to explore around the island.
- Be sure to make a handmade clay vase with a potters wheel early on in the day so that it can dry long enough to take it home safely.
- Every weekend, there is a Tops Handmade Market, which is perfect for finding unique souvenirs.
- What an incredible day in Bangkok this was for our family! We can’t wait to go back!

4. Bike or Golf Cart around Ancient City
Ancient City has more than 100 life-size replicas of the most famous cultural landmarks from all over Thailand. So kids can interact and be hands-on with these cultural sites without parents worrying about them being too loud or rowdy. Plus, the whole family will enjoy exploring this huge outdoor museum on bicycles, e-bikes, or golf carts!
Because of this, IMHO, Ancient City is one of the most child-friendly cultural attractions in Bangkok.
Check out this blog post to get a step-by-step guide to Ancient City with kids, and don’t forget to buy your discounted Ancient City Tickets on Trip.com for 50% off .
5. Enjoy the Iconic Landmarks all Lit Up at Night on a Chao Praya River Dinner Cruise
Experiencing Bangkok from the river is seriously my favorite way to see this city! And seeing it at sunset makes it even more spectacular.
- While enjoying an international buffet, you’ll pass the Grand Palace, Wat Arun Temple of the Dawn, Asiatique with the large ferris wheel, the famous luxury mall Icon Siam, and the beautifully designed Rama VIII bridge.
- The live music and Thai dancing show was also a hit with our kids
We’ve done quite a few dinner cruises over the years, but our favorite one is this Bangkok River Dinner Cruise.
LOCAL TIP: The best price we’ve found for the dinner cruises is on Klook. Klook is a trustworthy website like Viator or Get Your Guide, but specializes in Southeast Asian attractions.

9. Enjoy the Siam Niramit Performance at the Thailand Cultural Center
There are a variety of family-friendly shows, performances, concerts, and ballets here almost every night of the week. Our family personally enjoyed the Siam Niramit show. You can check out the upcoming shows here.
10. Ride the Interactive Thai Style Boat at the Samut Prakarn Learning Park and Tower — FREE!
Two floors of this skyscraper are an interactive museum dedicated to the history of Thailand and more specifically Samut Prakarn
- For one exhibit, we got into a ‘Thai style boat’ with a large screen in front taking us along the river like it was 200 years ago.
- The ‘Thai style boat’ was moving and swaying as if really on the river, then started to evade a military attack
- After exploring the museum, go to the top floor where the Observation Deck gives you another incredible viewpoint in Bangkok.
11. Bike around the Ayutthaya Historical Park with its ancient ruins dating back to the 14th-16th century
With more than 10 temples and 365 historical ruins to see, this is a great day trip from Bangkok.
- It’s worth buying the all-in-ticket for 220 baht (~$6 USD) to be able to explore all of the ancient ruins.
- Renting bikes for just 40 baht/day ($1.30 USD) makes it fun for the kids.
- If you have small kids or grandparents coming along, then a Tuk Tuk ride might be better. The tuk tuk rides are about 200 baht/hour ($6 USD).
- End the day in the most epic way by taking a Private Ayutthaya Long-tail Boat Ride Temple Tour
6. No trip to Bangkok is complete without a Tuk Tuk ride from the Tha Tien Pier to the Grand Palace
Even if you don’t want to fork out the 500 baht entrance fee, grabbing a few photos of the shiny golden architecture of the most famous landmark in Bangkok will be worth your visit!
LOCAL TIP: Don’t fall for the infamous Thailand Tuk Tuk driver scams like “The Grand Palace is Closed Today” SCAM. Download the MuvMi app instead to easily book an electric Tuk Tuk throughout the city without any worry or hassle.
7. Ring the Golden Gong atop the Golden Mount Temple
This is a family-friendly temple in Bangkok that we often take our friends and family to visit because of the awesome views of Bangkok from the top! And only 100 baht entrance fee.
- We tell our kids we’re going on an urban hike up the 344 steps.
- They have fun getting to hit the golden gong when they reach the top.
- Local Tip: Go at 5:30pm for an epic Sunset Viewpoint in Bangkok
8. Do the Treasure Hunt at the Siam Museum
Siam Museum is said to be an ‘edutainment museum’ because it is an interactive museum with 15+ fun exhibits
- exhibits on topics like the history of Siam, the monarchy, the Thai language, the main religion, the Thai baht, and even the educational system
- Our girls enjoyed the role play activity, the interactive food exhibit, the Thai history puzzle, and the history show.
- You can easily get to the Siam Museum from the Hop On Hop Off River Taxi.
- Siam Museum is one of the most child-friendly cultural attractions in Bangkok!
12. Learn how to make Thai silk at the Jim Thompson House
Take a step into the past as you walk through the traditional Thai style house on stilts.
- learn the skill of making Thai silk from silk worms
- admire the Thai art and collectibles on display
- Kids will enjoy the free Tuk Tuk shuttle service to the National Stadium BTS Station.
- Don’t forget to buy a beautiful silk scarf as a souvenir to take back home.
- 200 baht entrance fee (about $6 USD).
- Make the most of this Bangkok cultural experience by dining at the Jim Thompson Thai Restaurant. Book the three-course meal in advance on Klook for a nice discount.
13. See the Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho
This is another one of those family-friendly temples in Bangkok with a larger than life reclining buddha that is worthy to add to your Thailand Itinerary.
14. Enjoy most of the Famous Landmarks from the Hop On Hop Off Bangkok River Taxi
I’m not usually a fan of the Hop on Hop off bus tours in any city around the world, but the Hop on Hop off River Taxi in Bangkok is a game changer. Why?
- Most of the famous Bangkok landmarks are right along the river
- You get to Miss the gridlock traffic
- This step-by-step itinerary is perfect for families wanting to do a day trip on the Bangkok Hop on Hop off River Taxi
- Save money and get the Hop On Hop Off River Taxi One Day Pass in advance for less than $5 per person!
15. Off-the-beaten Path Bike & Canal Longtail Boat Tour
Did you know that Bangkok has been nicknamed the Venice of Asia? So what better than to go behind the scenes and see the local Thai life from the small canal waterways on this canal longtail boat tour.
- If you have teenagers, this Bangkok Bike and Canal Boat Tour with Lunch is even better to be able to see some hidden gems and untouched parts of Bangkok from a bike and a longtail boat. They also stop for an authentic Thai lunch along the river.
- Our whole family, both young and old, really enjoys seeing this authentic version of Bangkok up close and behind the scenes.

Best Bangkok Markets to take the Family
16. Watch the Train Roll Right through the Maeklong Train Market
This was one of the best day trips our family has ever taken! I mean what kid doesn’t love the adventure of watching a lively market flourish right on top of railroad tracks? Then when the train whistle blows from out in the distance, all of the vendors quickly whisk up all their goods and tuck them away to the sidewalk. Then the train whistle blows again as the conductor waves, and the train rolls slowly on by right within centimeters from you. Maeklong Train Market Tour is one of the best Day Trips from Bangkok to the Maeklong and the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market.
17. Ride the huge Ferris Wheel at Asiatique Market
Asiatique is our favorite place to take friends souvenir shopping because it’s this cool refurbished industrial warehouse turned night market right on the river.
- so many restaurants and food vendors
- lots of stalls selling homemade goods
- Ride the Ferris Wheel at dusk to get the best Bangkok sunset viewpoint
- Our girls also enjoy the double-decker carousel, the haunted mansion, and the Disney area.
- The Jurassic Park Adventure and the Sky Flyers Swings are on our Bangkok Bucket List.
18. See Flying Squirrels at the Chatuchak Weekend Market
Chatuchak is probably the most famous market in the whole world.
- You can probably find almost anything and everything here
- But this market is like a mile wide and a mile long!
- The downside: soooo big, super hot, and way over-crowded
- When my sister came to visit, we literally got lost in the ‘animal section’ for more than an hour! However, the kids actually enjoyed seeing lots of interesting animals like the eels, flying squirrels, and colorful parrots. I personally felt sad for the caged up creatures. But anyways, we finally found our way to the souvenir area. Just be prepared for LOTS of walking.
19. Try Mango & Sticky Rice at the Jodds Fair Rama 9
Jodds Fair is the best place to go if you’re looking for the most amazing street food in Bangkok!
- a bright and colorful market
- The kids will surely love the lively atmosphere!
- Be sure to try the BBQ Skewers, the Grilled Corn on the Cobb and the Lychee Bubble Tea.
20. Buy Old School Toys from the Thalot Rot Fai near Seacon Square
- This is a good market to find awesome street food and ‘yard sale’ type finds. The kids will like the vendors selling the toys at garage sale prices. Our girls favorite street food: Angry Bird meatballs on a stick, Egg Rolls, and Hand Rolled Ice Cream
21. Enjoy the Coconut Rolled Ice Cream on Khao San Road
While this is not technically considered a ‘market’, it is a walking street that is similar to an outdoor market.
- famous for its food and souvenir vendors
- Try the Pad Thai, Nutella Roti Pancakes, and the Shwarma Wrap with the meat shaved right off the fire pit
- Local Tip: If with kids, go before 5pm before the party vibes begin.
22. Go on an Asian-inspired Flower Scavenger Hunt at the Klong Flower Market
This is a particularly fun option if you have little girls, like us, who love flowers.
- Walk through the alleys upon alleys of flower vendors
- take fun instagram worthy pictures
- Then walk across the Chao Phraya Sky Park
23. Have one of the best fresh-fruit smoothies at the W District Market
This is a small, foodie haven located near Phrakhanong BTS Station. It’s pretty family-friendly since it’s outdoors and the kids can be loud in the backyard style eating area. Our favorite food vendors are: Holy Smokes, the burger truck, the Mexican tacos and the fresh fruit smoothies. They also have Thai, Isaan, Japanese, Korean, Indian, etc.

Adventurous Things to Do in Bangkok with Kids
If your gang is super active, these are some of the best things to do in Bangkok with kids that will help them exude all that pint up energy.
24. E-Scooter Jungle Tour in The Green Lung Area
This is one of the best things to do in Bangkok with kids as a local.
- First, ride a long tail boat or ferry across the Chao Praya River.
- Next, explore the coconut plantations and mangrove forests in ‘the Green Lung’ area of Bangkok.
- Stop by the floating market (only open on the weekend) to get an ancient Thai snack called ‘Miang Kham.’
- Then go bird watching up in the observatory tower in the botanical gardens.
- Afterwards, stop for lunch at one of the many instagram worthy cafes along the river. Our personal favorite is the Bangkok Tree House, which has a lush, tropical feel. It would make for an epic place to stay overnight with the kids too!
25. Try out Windsurfing at Nong Bon Water Sports Center
Nong Bon is a great park with a large lake to enjoy lots of water activities such as kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding on a SUP board, wind surfing, or just rent bikes to go around the lake.
26. Dare to Step Out onto the Leaning Glass 78 Floors up on the Mahanakorn Skywalk
This is not for the faint at heart and might be more fun for teenagers! My mom enjoyed the short thrill, amazing views of the city, and grilled pork with sticky rice from the Mahanakorn Eatery afterwards. This is one of the main tourist attractions in Bangkok.
27. Ride Down the Rainbow Waterslides at the Siam Amazing Amusement Park
Amazing Siam is probably the largest amusement park in Thailand, but still small compared to Universal Studios.
- With a couple roller coasters, the Log Flume, a double decker carousel, and some other carnival type rides
- Also has a waterpark section with many slides and a wave pool
KLOOK has the best price for the Amazing Siam Park that I’ve found for expats at 700 baht (~$20 USD) and includes a lunch buffet.
Amazing Siam is a little worn down in areas, which is not un-common in Thailand. But it’s still a fun family outing worth doing if you are living in Bangkok.
28. Jump Your Heart Out at Bounce Inc!
This is the best place for the kids to burn off some energy!
- Lots of different trampoline areas — for little kids to adults.
- 410 baht/hour (about $12 USD) if booked on Klook.com
We went to the one at Emquartier and afterwards watched a movie at the Kids Cinema right next to it.
29. Try out Parkour at The Movement Playground
This ex-warehouse facility has multiple levels and different types of obstacles to overcome while you try out some fun parkour type moves.
30. Surf at Flow House
If you’re about to go hit the high waves at Kata Beach in Phuket, you might want to spend an afternoon honing in those surfing skills at Flow House. Get the family package at a discount from Klook.
31. Watch the Dolphin Show at Safari World
Safari World is kind of like a ‘zoo’ but with lots of shows
- A drive-thru safari adventure where you will get to see giraffes and zebras up close and lions and tigers far away.
- an aviary, an aquarium, and a baby animal exhibit
- A Monkey Show, a Dolphin Show, a Sea Lion Show, a Bird Show, and a ‘Cowboy Stunt Show’
This place is a top tourist spot for families in Bangkok, so it feels very touristy and not so much an authentic Thai experience. But if you live in Bangkok, then it might be a fun day trip for your family. Regardless, I highly recommend booking Safari World Tickets at 25% Off on Klook.
32. Take a Muay Thai Exercise Class at Fit Fac Academy
This is such a fun, family-friendly activity to do in Bangkok and a great way for your kids to learn more about Thai culture and get some good exercise while doing a Muay Thai kickboxing activity!
33. Turn into Spiderman at the Virtual Reality Games Experience at Total VR Bangkok
With thrilling games that range from Star Wars to Knock Out Boxing to a Duck Hunting Game and much more.

Best Things to Do at the Indoor Playgrounds
34. Go Tubing at Harborland
Harborland is the best of the best in terms of an indoor playground, but the price reflects that! About 650 baht/kid ($20 USD). It’s great for any age because it has multiple zones for all skill sets. It also has many locations around the city. The biggest indoor playground in Bangkok is at the ONE BANGKOK Mall next to Lumpini Park.
35. Ride Down the 3 Story Twisty Slide at Playmondo
This place is equally as good as Harborland, but it is a little smaller. However, the cost is a little cheaper too. About 270-370 baht/kid ($8-$10 USD). Has a variety of activities and play areas for kids age 1-12 with 4 locations around the city.
36. Zipline into a Ball Pit at Kidzoona
Kidzoona is a great indoor playground for ages 1-9 — this is currently our go-to indoor playground! There are many locations all over Thailand and mostly at shopping malls. Not too expensive for the variety of play areas provided. About 200-300 baht/kid (about $6-9 USD). My girls like the ball pit, the zip line, and the pretend play area the most.
37. Evade and Shoot the Dinosaurs on the Dino Ride at YoYo Land
YoYo Land is a mini-amusement park best for ages 2-12. It kind of reminds me of a state fair back home with lots of carnival style rides as well as three indoor play areas included in the low price of 150 baht/kid (about $5 USD) if you buy your tickets in advance on Klook.com. Did I mention it’s indoors and air-conditioned? Yayy!.
38. Roam through the Wooden Treehouse Maze at Playville
This indoor playground feels more upscale and is in the popular Thong Lor area of town. I would say it’s geared for kids age 1-8. My girls thoroughly enjoyed playing here for a couple hours.
39. Ride the Neon Lights Slide at Startopia inside YoYo Land
YoYo Land just opened a brand new space themed playground called Startopia. Our kids loved it! The price is 350 baht/kid (~$10 USD)
40. Soar through the Air at Giga Park
Giga Park is probably one of the most affordable indoor playgrounds in Bangkok at about 180 baht/kid (~$6 USD) and parents are free! We personally like that our older kids have a special zone just for them with trampolines, zip lines, bumper cars, rock climbing walls, etc.
We’ve heard good reviews from friends about these indoor playgrounds:
41. BEAT Active at BITEC Bangna
42. Ninja Arena
Our family has been living in Thailand for 16 years now, and like most parents, we are constantly on the hunt for the best things to do in Bangkok with kids.
This list is constantly growing, so don’t forget to pin this page to save for later!

What to Do at the Best Kid Cafes in Bangkok
43. Ride the Pretty Merry-Go-Round at Lilliput Kids Cafe
This is our favorite go-to kids cafe that charges 200 baht/kid/hour (about $6 USD/hour), but parents can get in free if they purchase a drink or food item.
- Has a trampoline, kitchen play area, play horses to scoot around on, a dress up area, and a wooden beads digging area
- probably best for 2-8 year olds and geared a little bit more for girls
- Right outside is a wooden playground in the Bambini Shopping Complex that’s free.
- We also usually grab dinner at Smizzle Burger right there too.
44. Climb Up into the Large Red Mushroom at Wonder Woods Kids Cafe and Co-learning Space
There is both an indoor and outdoor play area with a cafe that serves food and drinks. Our girls love this place, but it’s a little pricier at 450 baht for kids (about $13 USD) and 150 baht for adults (about $5 USD)! Totally worth visiting during Christmas in Bangkok with kids because it goes all out with Christmas themed decorations and activities.
45. Join the Baby Massage Class at Bumpsy Daisy Cafe
This cafe is free to get in and perfect for parents with newborn to toddler age kids. It has workshops and parent-meet-up groups all throughout the week.
47. Dig in the Wooden Bead Pit at Mari Go Round
This is a nice indoor play area with slide, soft rock climbing area, and lots of Melissa and Doug type toys. It’s probably more suited for ages 1-6 year olds. The cost is 250 baht/kid (about $7 USD) and 100 baht/adult (about $3 USD).
48. Enjoy the Garden- like Atmosphere Surrounded by Peacocks, Swans, Bunnies, Turtles, Ducks, and Koi Fish

They have a nice big outdoor playground, and a balance bike lane. 120 baht to rent a balance bike. The zip line was a big hit with my older girls. Free entrance.

- We enjoyed sitting outside in the ‘camping’ chairs.

61. Enjoy a futuristic dining experience inside a refurbished Airplane at Na-oh Restaurant

62. Enjoy the Cheesecake in the Lush Garden Setting at The Gardens of Dinsor Palace
The children will enjoy watching the swans, rabbits, and white peacock. For Ayvah’s birthday, we let the girls dress up like princesses and it felt like this was their castle. Such a great memory!

This is a fun dinner option to take the family to have an International buffet on the 78th floor and then you have access to the revolving observation deck on the 81st floor afterwards.

The lovely all-glass atrium feels like you are in a true English cottage. We have celebrated many birthdays and baby showers at this little tea house!

If you’ve ever been to a fondue restaurant, this is very similar! Yet sooo much cheaper!
- Cook your own food
- Pick two soup choices per table (ie chicken broth for the kids side and a more adventurous Thum Yam flavor for yours)
- The wagyu beef is top quality and the large prawn are delicious!
- Even better is that children under 120cm (about 4 feet tall) are free of charge.
66. Ride Down the Fireman Pole at Habito Mall
This is more of a lifestyle mall with a small playground in the middle and a dozen or so restaurants. Our family personally likes:
- fresh baked scones from Baker Bricks
- Carbonara pasta from Don Pino
- American Chinese from Lucky Panda
- Sushi and Ramen Noodles from Teien (which has a small area inside for kids to color and play)
- rice bowls from Easy Health

Best Park in Bangkok to Take the Littles
These are our favorite green spaces in Bangkok to get some fresh air and let the kids run wild.
69. Rent Bicycles at Rot Fai Train Park
For just 35-50 baht/day (about $1-$1.50), you can rent bicycles with or without the kids seat. Lots of normal bike trails to explore too.
70. Watch the Dogs in the Dawg Park or the Turtles in the Pond at Benchasiri Park

This place has become our girls most favorite place to spend our Saturdays.

- Best of all, the entrance is free and also the bikes and helmets are provided for free too.
91. Mom and dad can shop while the kids play in the IKEA Small Town
Enjoy 1 hour of free childcare while you shop at Mega Bangna or IKEA. Sometimes, we just opt for a mini-date and grab one of the best desserts in town at After You Cafe — literally just a one minute walk from the IKEA Small Town.

97. Touch the sting rays at the SEA Life Ocean World and Aquarium
SEA LIFE has a huge variety of marine life with vibrant fish, large sting rays, glow in the dark jelly fish, and even reef sharks from the local Andaman sea. The exhibits are both exciting for my little girls and also educational with many hands on activities and touch pools. The 3D show at the beginning is really fun to watch too. You must book your tickets in advance if you only want to visit the aquarium. Get the best deal I’ve been able to find here: Sea Life Tickets
98. Be Immersed into the Night Sky under the Large Dome Shaped Theatre at The Science Center for Education
There are multiple buildings beside just the planetarium. They also have a small aquarium, a dinosaur exhibit, a library room, an indoor play area with pirate ship, and an insect exhibition room. It’s also very cheap at only 50 baht per person (about $1.50 USD).

- The ‘penguin’ = kids can stand and push it themselves and helps with balance
- The smallest skates they have are for a 3 year old.
102. Sing your Heart out with a little Karaoke time!
There’s a lot of kid-friendly karaoke places, but there is also a lot of not-so-family-friendly karaoke bars in the city. So our go-to is the Sound Check, Blu-o Rhythm or SF Town.

FLIGHT TIP: We’ve personally had the best experience flying to Thailand with our family on Qatar Airlines and also Japan Airlines. Both were child-friendly airline options.
- Families with small children could board early
- Automatically got bulk-head seating when we traveled with an infant
- Could pre-select kid-friendly meals
- They have great entertainment options for the littles
- They had ‘grab-n-go’ snacks available throughout the whole flight
- The best part : more legroom than the other international flights for families that we’ve taken
*ACCOMODATION TIP: If you haven’t booked a place to stay yet, be sure to read these ‘Must Read Tips’ BEFORE booking any place to stay in Bangkok.
*TRANSPORTATION TIP: Also you can buy a BTS Sky Train Pre-filled Card that makes it easy to get on and off the BTS Sky Trains with an easy tap. No need to wait in the long queues to buy individual tickets.
*MONEY TIP: Take Thai baht with you because most vendors do not take credit card. Also, beware of pick-pocketers in all the tourist areas. Simply keep your phone, wallet, backpack or purse on your front side.
*BAG TIP: This is my Crossbody Shoulder Bag because it’s small and light, keeps my valuables up front, and can easily still hold a small travel umbrella, my sunglasses, my passport, chapstick, and mula. I have taken this sling bag with me to Thailand, USA, Japan, France, Italy — literally all around the world!
